Swing Time: Toby Tucker’s Women’s Golf Line

Of all the dress codes required to gain entrance to clubs, the most unforgiving may be the one to play golf. “At many golf clubs your skirt and shorts must be as long as your knee, and you have to have sleeves and a collar,” explains Toby Tucker, a former market editor and lifelong golfer. “All of those details can make for a pretty dorky-looking outfit.”

After years of playing by these bleak fashion rules and feeling as if there were few functional options beyond pink and green argyle, Tucker was determined to create a sophisticated collection. Tucker’s eponymous line, which debuted on Saturday at the Bridge golf club in Bridgehampton, N.Y., doesn’t have a trace of the boxy polos and ill-fitting tan shorts to which she constantly resigned herself. Instead, the line is a sophisticated, clean, lightly preppy collection that might first strike you as a perfect ensemble to wear to lunch or on an afternoon of errands, and then would surprise you when you learned that its first responsibility is to perform as comfortable, carefully engineered sportswear. The pieces are secretly technical, with almost-hidden details that cover the gamut of needs on the golf course. A dress with smart-looking mattress ticking is cut for a halter sports bra and has pockets that fit a scorecard. Cotton button-down shirts have SPF protection, a little stretch, and are long—a decision that came from Tucker seeing one too many belly buttons every time a woman swung. Shorts pockets are angled so that nothing falls out during the constant bending to pick up stray golf balls, and each has ribbon detail, providing a space to hold tees. A water-resistant anorak that comes in ten colors including grass-green, orange, and ice-blue (bright, Tucker emphasizes, but not scary bright: pretty) is long enough to keep one’s backside dry while waiting for a storm to pass. The pieces are for sale on tobytuckergolf.com and will be arriving in golf clubs within the next few months.

PRE FALL 2010 CAROLINA HERRERA

NEW YORK 7 DECEMBRE 2010

"I wanted everything light as a feather," Carolina Herrera said about pre-fall. Where better to look for inspiration than the tango? The designer used a colorful 1920's print of dancers locked arm in arm for both a crepe de chine cocktail dress and a floor-length shirt gown, and its bold hues—lava red, dandelion yellow, and Directoire blue—informed the rest of a cheerful collection that played to the designer's strengths. Herrera's tweed separates are so airy you can practically see through them, though her lineup was mostly dresses: above-the-knee blouson shifts and fitted sheaths, some with embroidered brooches, for day; and, for after eight, a moiré draped one-shoulder column and a floral-print jacquard dot fils coupe number sure to see a lot of action on the gala circuit. The pièce de résistance was a strapless multi-stripe gown with long train made from a single piece of draped duchesse satin. It wasn't necessarily made for dancing, but it would make an unforgettable entrance.

Get Rid of Acne Scars

At some point you had acne, now you are left with embarrassing, ugly scars. There are ways to diminish and reduce the appearance of the acne scars. The severity of the scars will determine what you will need to do to diminish them. I would recommend seeking advice from a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon to determine the best course of action.

For very mild scarring you can try a few at home procedures and products to help reduce the appearance of the scars. At home dermabrasion and chemical peels can help diminish some scarring especially if you also use retinol or alpha hydroxyl acid lotions or creams. For sensitive skin you may not want to apply retinol or alpha hydroxyl products right after dermabrasion or peels because it can cause redness and irritation. Other products you can try are scar reducing creams like Mederma or Rosehip seed oil which is said to be great at reducing scar tissue. Aloe Vera juice and gels and lavender oils are also said to work well on reducing scars.

Professional treatments for scarring include Laser Resurfacing which involves the use of a laser to remove skin so new skin can form in its place. Laser resurfacing can cause uneven skin tones in people with darker skin. It is still being studied but shows a lot of promise. After treatment you may experience redness and swelling which may last for several weeks.

Dermabrasion has been around for decades. Originally sandpaper was used to remove damaged skin. Now a machine rotates to remove the damaged skin, the skin is numbed or frozen first. After the procedure your skin is raw and scabs will form. After the scabs heal your skin will be reddish for several weeks.

Augmentation is a procedure where material like collagen or your own fat will be injected under the scar to bring it to the surface. The treatments last for about six months but they are working on more permanent solutions.

Subcision is a technique that detaches the scar from deeper tissue and allows a pool of blood to form under the scar. The blood clots and helps form connective tissue under the scar to level it with the rest of the skin surface. Subcision is usually combined with either dermabrasion or laser resurfacing.

The depth and shape of your scars will determine what treatment your doctor will recommend.

Christian Dior - Fall Winter 2010/2011 VIDEO

PRE FALL 2010 CHRISTIAN DIOR

PARIS 26 JANUARY 2010

A military tin helmet remade in leather, a scarf turban, and a beret: The headgear alone is enough to whisk the imagination into the zone of air raids, blackouts, and plucky WWII heroines playing their part while, quite possibly, having some off-duty fun with the GIs.

That Christian Dior had troubled to theme its pre-fall collection so coherently and with such attention to detail again reinforces the importance of this in-between season—no longer second-league clothes shown to buyers on racks but a full, competitive camera-ready production for general release. After all, this is where the daywear is for Dior, and this season it played as a military sequel to the film noir hit the house put out for Spring. The Eisenhower jackets and bombers, pencil skirts with military pockets, and fur-collared tweed coats, all in shades of khaki, olive, and brown, do an excellent job of saluting the trends while maintaining Parisian standards of fit and timelessness. And for evening, the silver lamé siren dress—spot-on for the coming season—looked far too accomplished to be classified as a mere understudy.

DKNY RTW Fall 2010 VIDEO

PRE FALL 2010 DKNY VIDEO

PRE-FALL 210 DKNY

DKNY s tightly focused pre-fall collection is heavy on classic American staples. In the lineup: a great khaki trench, ultra-soft unlined twill blazers, and a lightweight silk bomber jacket. "Less is more," said the label's senior vice president of design, Andrew Comley. That doesn't mean he played it safe, though. "I wanted a balance between timeless sportswear and a bit of novelty," he explained. Because the DKNY girl loves a good print, he created a graphic take on argyle for a georgette drop-waist frock; a more subtle version of the pattern livened up a jacquard coat. Even more playful were the navy and red nautical stripes and anchor motifs. The contemporary brand is about to come of age—yes, it'll turn 21 next year—but its MO remains the same: wearable basics with a hint of fun.
